About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

This workshop is designed for young Chinese migrants, particularly students and professionals, but is also open to anyone curious about language, mental health, and migration.

💬 Words can be violent or healing. However, the impact of language constraints on mental health in migrant communities is an under-acknowledged topic, as we live in a world where it has become expected to know English. As part of the Migrants' Rights Network (MRN) Words Matter campaign, this 2-hour workshop invites young Chinese migrants and diaspora to reflect on how harmful migration narratives affect our mental health, and to heal each other through shared experiences.

🌿 Together we will:

  • Explore language as a symbolic violence
  • Storytelling & sharing: language, mental health, and belonging
  • Collective care & support: imagining new alternative narratives
  • Have fun!

From accent anxiety and racial microaggressions to the silence around mental well-being, we’ll create a safe space to unpack these experiences together.

✨ Facilitated by Xin, a Chinese migrant researcher with a dance and anthropology background. She is conducting a study on how Chinese immigrants in London use AI chatbots for their mental well-being.
