Power Up Bristol 2018
Event Information
Description
Friends of the Earth invites you to apply for a day of free Power Up training on planning, led by Naomi Luhde-Thompson (Planning Specialist at Friends of the Earth).
If accepted, you'll learn about how you can have a say in what happens locally and challenge bad development!
The land use planning system is fundamental to what gets built where. This training day is aimed at giving you and your community an introduction to your rights, the local planning system, and the skills necessary to win successful campaigns against local development that is socially and environmentally damaging.
An understanding of planning is one of the most important tools you can have as a campaigner. As such, the day will focus on:
- Our rights under the planning system
- The planning system - its strengths and its flaws
- How to influence planning decisions.
Here is our tentative agenda for the day:
- 09.45 Coffee and arrivals
- 10.00 Welcome and housekeeping
- 10.15 Sharing our stories - what brought us here, and what drives us?
- 11.30 Comfort Break
- 11.45 What is the planning system? How does it work? What can you do?
- 13.00 Lunch
- 13.45 Your local plan: why is it important?
- 15.30 Coffee break
- 15.45 Planning Power Up continued
- 16.45 Wrap up and Close
- 17.00 Clean Up
During the application process you'll have a chance to let us know about your experience or specific questions you might have about planning. The training will be tailored to the needs of the group on the day, and your answers will help us to incorporate your interests and experience into the training. Your answers will also help us to allocate training places based on who we think will benefit most from this kind of training.
This training is not to be missed for groups who are engaged with planning concerns or who would like to be. Please share amongst your contacts locally and invite allies who you think might be interested: https://www.facebook.com/events/170257063746576/
Refreshments will be provided. If you're only able to come for part of the day please specify on your RSVP.
We hope to see you on Saturday 29 September 2018!
