About this event
This is a pay what you can event to support artists. Recordings of the classes are available on request to enjoy in your own time via a private video link.
Art History: Weird Bodies delves into the ways contemporary artists engage with the human form. From the expressive, boundary-pushing performances of live art to avant-garde practices that question and redefine how we perceive the body. The human body is both personal and public, often used to express vulnerability, challenge norms, and investigate identity, power, and societal constructs.
We’ll examine how artists, from performance art pioneers to present-day multidisciplinary creators, have used the body as a medium for radical expression, self-exploration, and social commentary. You’ll discover new ways to interpret the body for storytelling and emotional communication.
Art History: Weird Bodies features an illustrated lecture about the history of several prevalent artists, combined with a few practical art activities inspired by experimental body art to embed your understanding of techniques and methods. We cover modern and contemporary movements and artists to give you knowledge on their work and life. Please Note: sensitive themes and nudity may be shown and discussed during the lecture.
We welcome all abilities to join us for portfolio development, practice or fun! The live classes are also followed by an optional informal group discussion to share thoughts in a non-judgemental space.
If you can’t attend a class, recordings are available to view. These recordings are sent directly to your email following the class via a private YouTube video link.
