Event Details

Practical skills for advisors supporting those with mental health issues.

This course will be delivered by Brian Hanley of H&F Mind

On this course you will learn about mental health and how this can impact communication with advice workers.

The session will provide an overview of mental health, prevalence, and practical tips for those working with individuals who are experiencing a mental health problem or in distress.

It will cover:

  • mental health awareness
  • reasonable adjustments
  • support services
  • communication techniques
  • de-escalation skills
  • suicidal clients
  • taking care of your own wellbeing in your role

The course will be 2.5 hours long and will be interactive in nature.

This course follows on from the Well at Work (mental health awareness) course. However it is not necessary to have attended the Well at Work course to benefit from this course.

Please note the training room at the Law Centre is down a flight of stairs. There is no lift. People with limited mobility might find access difficult.

Please click here for the Advice Station website to see all our training events. We offer free training to staff and volunteers in advice organisations.
