Who is this group for?
Many carers want the person with dementia to remain in their own home for as long as possible.
This online session is for carers who are looking for practical and clinical advice that can help them support the person with dementia in their own home.
Carers often talk about feeling isolated and worry that what they are feeling isn’t ‘normal’ or ‘ok’.
This session will provide an opportunity for carers to meet, talk together about their shared experiences, and learn from each other that they are not alone.
This will be a safe space for family, and other unpaid carers of people living with dementia, to meet and share their experiences, challenges and feelings, and to learn from each other.
This group will give carers time to talk and share their knowledge and questions, and support each other.
Who is running this group?
The group will be facilitated by an experienced dementia services practitioner so that the group feels psychologically safe and supportive, and to support and help guide and connect carers.
Lorraine Haining, Dementia Specialist Nurse:
I support carers with advice and tips on how to support loved ones with dementia in their own homes, if you and the person wish them to remain there. I want to offer space and time for carers to explore their issues and share their experiences as well as connect with others for emotional support and gain some practical and clinical knowledge.

No! We hope that this becomes a regular fixture in your schedule for as long as it’s helpful. But you don’t have to attend every session.
It's easy to feel overwhelmed when you're looking after someone with dementia. Finding practical tips and advice from people who've been there and done it can help. You'll connect with professionals and other carers who can help you find short cuts through the confusing maze of dementia care.
This group is only for unpaid carers, family or friends who are looking after someone with dementia. We do offer support for paid carers - please visit www.dementiacarers.org.uk/partnerships to find out more.
Absolutely! This is a safe space where carers can join and speak when the time feels right for them.
No. We understand that sometimes it is difficult to get a diagnosis for someone with dementia and we recognise that you still need support. Therefore, the person you are caring for does not need to have a formal diagnosis of dementia for you to attend any of our online group support sessions.
