About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours

This is a fantastic opportunity to see our planting sites and learn how to give our trees a helping hand!

We will be maintaining the existing trees at 'Drovers Rest' (Exact details via email *).

We have Joel Thomas, and Mike Cunningham, who between them have over 20 years of forestry experience, on hand to be our resident experts. You have the chance to find out why woodlands are so important in the fight for a biodiverse UK and what we are doing about it. You will also learn which trees are planted at this site, why we chose them and whats special about them.

    The hands on stuff:

We will be removing tree guards, removing the grasses which can suffocate the trees and replacing the tree guards. In some cases the trees may need to be adjusted and some may need replacing. We will also be mulching the young trees by putting out cardboard and woodchip on the trees to prevent weeds and to encourage a fungal compost suitable for the trees. Perhaps even some fence repair work.

It won't be too taxing unless you want it to be, but many hands make light work.

We will bring along some light refreshments but do bring your own supplies for the day.

We need your help so even if you can only attend for half a day It will positively affect the ability for this new woodland to host a variety of wildlife and create an amazing habitat over the next 50 years!

    10.00 am - 3.50 pm

Please bring lunch, your friendly faces, sturdy footwear and correct clothing for the weather.

Details of the drop off point and parking for the day just a short walk from the road.

Bringing friends and family is fine just get them another ticket but we just need to know for insurance purposes their names and ages.

    See you soon!

    Frequently asked questions

    What should I wear?

We will be outside all day so wear outdoor clothing suitable for all weathers and waterproofs. This includes sturdy boots for mud. If its looking like a hot day bring hats and sunscreen.

    What should I bring?

Bring everything you will need for the day. I like to bring a camping chair for breaks in the day. This also includes your packed lunch for the day and all water/ flask/drinks. If you wanted to bring something to share like cake or snacks we very much encourage this too :)

    Will there be shelter?

We will bring down a gazebo to shelter us from the worst of the weather if it turns.

    Is there a loo?

Our sites can be quite remote so this is a good question to ask. On this site we have access to a nearby campsite.
