About the Webinar
Awareness of mental health in the workplace has never been higher. But what does that mean in practice for line managers and business owners? What are you expected to do, and how should you go about it?
Recent research from LSE and the Mental Health Foundation estimates that mental health problems cost the UK economy £118 billion a year. A massive 72% of that cost is due to the lost productivity of working age people living with mental health conditions. Now that restrictions are ending, and some form of new normality is returning, it’s time to address the mental health impact that the past two years has had.
Not surprisingly it’s the practical aspects that can be the most challenging. With all the sensitivities involved, just approaching a conversation about mental health is outside many managers’ comfort zone. Even more so when an individual hasn’t mentioned mental health issues, but exhibits behaviour that might lead to that conclusion. Our consultants draw on their extensive experience and use real life examples to discuss what a line manager’s responsibilities are, and to offer some practical hands-on ways of effectively dealing with the most common scenarios.
In this webinar we’ll explore:
• How to have the difficult conversations;
• Practical ways to manage mental health related absence;
• When to act if you suspect someone is experiencing symptoms of poor mental health;
• Health and safety requirements and relevant legislation to bear in mind; and
• How to manage under-performance when an employee presents with mental health problems.
