This two day workshop is designed only for Registered Nurses who have previously completed a Practice Supervisor one day workshop (locally or at University) and who supervise students whilst in practice.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has reviewed and updated the standards of proficiency for registered nurses and the standards for education and training. The Practice Assessor role is based on the new NMC Standards for “Student Supervision and Assessment” published in May 2018.

“Practice assessors conduct assessments to confirm student achievement of proficiencies and programme outcomes for practice learning …. assessment decisions by practice assessors are informed by feedback sought and received from practice supervisors” (NMC, 2018 7.1 & 7.2).

Programme content for:

Day 1

• Recap of the roles PS/PA/AA roles

• How to conduct an assessment

• Giving Feedback / feedforward

• Capable students

• Failing to fail- case studies

Day 2

• Practicing giving feedback

• Undertake objective assessment

• Revisit Practice Assessment Document

• OARs (Ongoing Achievement Records)

• Developing efficient systems of supervisor feedback

• Learning environment

• Professional practice

To complete the workshop, candidates must attend both workshop days.

There is an expectation for participants to complete a pre-workshop preparation. This will be emailed to you in advance of the session.

Following attendance at this workshop and successful completion of a portfolio, attendees will be included on their organisations’ database of Practice Assessors.
