Event description

Description

Social workers inside and outside of school play an important role in anti-bullying and anti-cyberbullying efforts. Despite this, the role of social workers in relation to bullying and cyberbullying in particular, has not been well documented in the academic literature.

Due to the rising concern of cyberbullying, it is evident that practitioners need to be educated on cyberbullying and (related school bullying) as well as what look for when working with families and young people.

Through a combination of presented material and small group discussion, the following will be considered:

  • What is cyberbullying?
  • How do young people engage in cyberbullying and why?
  • What is social media and how is it used?
  • What are the warning signs of cyberbullying, cyber victimisation and the bystander effect?
  • The role of social workers and educators in addressing cyberbullying.
