Event description

Description

Presented by Dr David Wilkins, Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Assistant Director of CASCADE, Cardiff University

Social workers need a variety of skills to work successfully with children and families. There has been a much-needed focus in recent years on the nature of these skills and how best to support and develop them. However, in addition to needing excellent inter-personal, communication and therapeutic skills, social workers in statutory settings are also key-decision makers, having a life-long influence for many of the children and families they work with. Yet, despite the importance of decision-making by social workers, it is still a developing area of research, and we know little about interventions that make a difference.

This workshop will:

- Provide an overview of what we know about how social workers make decisions.

- Review the evidence from a series of studies of supervision, looking at what decisions social workers typically have to make.

- Consider interventions that have been used to help improve social work decision-making, including the use of Machine Learning.

- Share early results and future plans from a new programme of work seeking to improve social work decision-making.

- Demonstrate a technique for measuring the quality of social work decision-making and enable attendees to test their own abilities (and compare them with those of other workers).

Dr David Wilkins, Uwch-ddarlithydd Gwaith Cymdeithasol, Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol Cascade, Ysgol y Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol, Prifysgol Caerdydd.

Mae angen amrywiaeth o sgiliau ar weithwyr cymdeithasol er mwyn gweithio’n llwyddiannus gyda phlant a theuluoedd. Dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, mae ymchwilwyr wedi canolbwyntio ar natur y sgiliau hyn a’r ffyrdd gorau o’u cefnogi a’u datblygu. Fodd bynnag, ynghyd â’r angen am sgiliau rhyngbersonol, cyfathrebu a therapiwtig ardderchog ar weithwyr cymdeithasol, maent yn gwneud penderfyniadau allweddol mewn cyd-destunau statudol hefyd. Mae eu penderfyniadau’n cael effaith oesol ar lawer o’r plant a’r teuluoedd y maent yn gweithio gyda nhw. Eto i gyd, er pwysigrwydd y penderfyniadau y mae gweithwyr cymdeithasol yn eu gwneud, mae’n faes ymchwil sy’n datblygu o hyd, a dim ond ychydig yr ydym yn ei wybod am ymyriadau sy’n gwneud gwahaniaeth.

Bydd y gweithdy hwn yn:

- Cyflwyno trosolwg o’r hyn y dylem ei wybod ynghylch sut mae gweithwyr cymdeithasol yn gwneud penderfyniadau.

- Adolygu’r dystiolaeth o gyfres o astudiaethau o oruchwyliaeth, gan ystyried y penderfyniadau nodweddiadol y mae’n rhaid i weithwyr cymdeithasol eu gwneud.

- Ystyried ymyriadau sydd wedi cael eu defnyddio i helpu i wella sut mae gweithwyr cymdeithasol yn gwneud penderfyniadau, gan gynnwys defnyddio Dysgu Peiriannol.

- Rhannu canlyniadau cynnar a chynlluniau ar gyfer y dyfodol o raglen newydd o waith sydd am wella sut y gwneir penderfyniadau mewn gwaith cymdeithasol.

- Arddangos techneg ar gyfer mesur ansawdd penderfyniadau gweithwyr cymdeithasol a galluogi’r rheini sy’n dod i’r gweithdy i brofi eu galluoedd eu hunain (a’u cymharu â rhai gweithwyr eraill).

***Mae'r digwyddiad hwn yn rhad ac am ddim. Mae cofrestru’n hanfodol. Bydd methu dod neu roi rhybudd o ganslo ddau ddiwrnod gwaith ymlaen llaw yn arwain at ffi canslo o £30 i gyflogwyr y cynrychiolydd. Mae hyn yn bolisi cyffredinol, a bydd ar waith ni waeth beth fo’r amgylchiadau. Bydd ExChange yn gwarchod seddi a gedwir os ydych yn rhoi rhybudd i ni y bydd rhywun yn dod yn eich lle. Er mwyn cofrestru’n llwyddiannus, mae’n rhaid i chi gynnwys CYFEIRIAD LLAWN EICH CYFLOGWR (eich enw chi os ydych yn hunangyflogedig) a CHYFEIRIAD EBOST EICH RHEOLWR LLINELL.***
