Event description

Description

Join us for an exhibition and evening dedicated to fighting for the reproductive rights of women worldwide as we celebrate the pre-launch of For the Lives of All Women

For the Lives of All Women (or Pela Vida das Mulheres) is a collection of photographs and interviews by Camila Cavalcante. For over two years, Cavalcante travelled around Brazil meeting women who have had or who have witnessed illegal abortions. She photographed fifty women who shared their stories with her.

As well as an exhibition of the portraits and a Q&A with Cavalcante, the evening will include an unseen video from Brazilian politician, feminist and human rights activist Marielle Franco, as well as a panel discussion with Zachi Brewster (abortion and miscarriage doula), Ann Furedi (CEO of British Pregnancy Advisory Service and author of The Moral Case for Abortion) and Wallis Grant from the London Irish Abortion Rights Campaign.

The collection of portraits is both deeply personal and deeply political. Cavalcante uses the naked female form to challenge the dangerous reproductive laws of Brazil. She exposes her body and identity on behalf of these women as a sign of solidarity, as well as subversion.

The exhibition will run in the Gower Street Gallery from 14-30 September.

For the Lives of All Women / Pela Vida das Mulheres will be published on the 14th November 2019. You will be able to pre-order the book on the night.

Tickets are priced at £10 / £8 students and Plus cardholders, and include a glass of wine or soft drink
