Event description
Listening to God, each other and ourselves to discern next steps for worship leaders and local preachers.

About this event

Repeated on 12th July, 22nd July and 16th September, this event is for local preachers and worship leaders and those that co-ordinate them as they step back into a new, post-lockdown ministry.

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard local preachers and worship leaders are thinking about the return of more face-to-face worship in different ways:

  • Some may be raring to go, missing deeply the opportunity to exercise their calling to this ministry
  • Some may be keen for things to return to ‘life as it was’
  • Some may be raring to innovate, to think about what God is calling the church to next
  • Some may be hesitant, with questions about the safety of returning
  • Some may be worried, thinking that their local church or churches they led worship or preached in won’t re-open
  • Some may be reflecting on their calling, thinking about whether it’s time to consider seriously what God is calling them onto next

What we’ll do together

At this event, we’ll make space for you, worship leaders and local preachers across the region to:

  • Reflect theologically and prayerfully on where you are, and to speak to others in similar positions
  • Share useful resources
  • Offer some useful next steps for action, and
  • Work out how best the Learning Network could support you in the coming weeks and months

Who should come to this series of events?

Any lay leaders with a teaching, preaching, worship- or service-leading ministry; those that co-ordinate them. We're focused primarily on the Southern & Islands Region in this event, though if you're from outside and still want to come along, we'd love to have you!

What if I'm not from a Methodist Church?

Don’t worry! If you think this event might benefit you as a lay preacher / a reader / worship leader from another denomination, you'd be very welcome!

How much does this training event cost?

This event is free.

About the Connexional Learning Network

Learning and development across the connexion is supported by the Methodist Church's Learning Network. This work has four aims:

  • nurturing and equipping Christ-like disciples
  • challenging and equipping mission-shaped communities
  • forming and equipping those who share in lay and ordained ministry
  • enabling and encouraging creative thinkers in an environment of scholarship, research and innovation.

The Southern & Islands Region of the Learning Network covers the Channel Islands, South-East, and Southampton districts of the Methodist Church. The South West Region covers the Bristol, Cornwall, Plymouth & Exeter Districts. Each region is supported by a team of Learning and Development Officers and a Regional Coordinator who work in partnership with many other people who have a heart and passion for learning and development in the context of mission and ministry.
