Event description
Precision Medicine (Genomics and Analytics) Workshop

About this Event

In this workshop we offer students from a biological background the opportunity to get a taste of the cutting edge research that goes on in the area of Genomics and Analytics. During the workshop we’ll present a multi-ethnic dataset consisting of genome-wide genotyping of individuals and demonstrate how we can use these data to estimate ethnicity, allowing us to pick subsets from the data by ethnicity and use these to look for further ethnic subdivision and interrogate population history form a genetic viewpoint. We’ll then see how we can estimate from the genetic data how related someone’s parents are and see what impact this has on risk of birth defects, giving us an insight into genetic counselling. No prior knowledge of data analysis is required, just an interest to learn more about this exciting field…

The workshop forms an introduction to the new MSc in Precision Medicine: Genomics and Analytics which launches in September 2019.
