About the PRIDDY
Alcohol is not an equal opportunities substance. Two people may score the same on the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) but their journeys with alcohol may follow different paths. The Predicting Risk in Drinkers: Drinking and You (PRIDDY) Toolkit is designed to help workers identify individual risk factors that may suggest a person is more likely to experience harm from alcohol. The PRIDDY Toolkit brings the evidence base together into one tool and will equip workers to deliver more personalised and meaningful advice.
We are excited to offer this training to professionals working in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, substance misuse, criminal justice, social care, health, and young people.
This course aims to give workers the knowledge and skills to:
- identify the general risk of alcohol related-harm
- give appropriate advice to address the harm
- identify more specific and personalised risk of harm
- give more specific tailored advice including harm reduction advice
By the end of the training course, participants will be able to:
- understand the alcohol unit and UK guidelines and apply it to individual consumption;
- understand the physical, social and psychological effects of alcohol in a way that supports change;
- use and interpret the AUDIT alcohol screening tool;
- communicate general brief advice effectively and confidently to individuals about their alcohol use;
- use the PRIDDY checklist to identify those at greater risk of alcohol related harm;
- communicate specific advice about reducing the risk of harm from alcohol for people who have specific risk factors identified in the PRIDDY checklist;
- provide information about the various treatment and support options available for people with alcohol problems.
The training willl be held online via Zoom with regular breaks. Due to the small group sizes it is expected that attendees will keep their video on and interact in the session to get the most out of the day. A copy of the PRIDDY Toolkit can be downloaded prior to the session.
