This course is designed for those who are involved with or planning to develop their sex and relationships work with groups of young people or individually. Participants may benefit from attending Level 1 Sex & Relationships, but this is not a pre-course requirement. Please note this course was previously called, ‘Abortion: Dilemmas and Decisions.’
To raise awareness and understanding of teenage pregnancy and abortion so that professionals can support young people to make informed choices.
- Identify tools, strategies and support for working with young people who are pregnant and those who are at risk of pregnancy
- Medical information regarding the different methods of abortion
- Confidentiality and the law
- Awareness of the support available pre and post abortion and for teenage parents
- Increase confidence to discuss pregnancy options with young people
- To reflect on your own views on teenage pregnancy and abortion and how they might affect your practice

Is this course free?
All courses are free to professionals working in the Bristol area and are delivered on a multiagency basis. If you cannot attend you must let us know 5 working days before the course or you will be charged £30
What if I don't work in Bristol?
You can still apply to attend the training, but you will be charged £30 for half day courses and £60 for full day courses. Where courses become oversubscribed priority will be given to applicants from the Bristol area
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Please contact us if you would like to transfer your place to a colleague from within your organisation
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No - you will be asked to sign in on arrival
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
If you have contacted us to inform us that a colleague will be taking your place, please ensure they update us with their details at the event when they sign in by crossing out the name of the person who originally booked.
When & Where
We offer a number of training courses for those working with young people in Bristol. The courses aim to increase workers’ confidence and skills to respond appropriately to young people’s queries, refer them to appropriate sources of support and advice and to carry out effective sex and relationships and substance misuse work. It is recommended that all professionals working with young people in Bristol, as a minimum, attend the introductory Level 1 Sex and Relationships and Level 1 Substance Misuse courses (unless they have in-depth knowledge in these areas and have a good overview of local services).
