Prepare Your Approach to Galleries (Matlock)
Description
Prepare your approach to Galleries
Monday 9 September, 10.30am - 12.30pm
Derbyshire Record Office, Matlock
A bitesize training workshop for visual artists, craft makers and anyone who normally sells their contemporary art work in galleries, arts centres, at festivals, fairs, shows and other outlets. The workshop will assist artists in preparing the approach and 'pitch' they make to gallery curators and buyers. The session will also provide useful tips and ideas on how to be considered for exhibition, sales or commissioning opportunities.
About the workshop
The workshop, whilst a stand alone session, is also linked to Creative Derbyshire's 'Meet the Curator' event on Thursday 19 September at QUAD, Derby http://meetthecurator13.eventbrite.com/. 'Meet the Curator' is an opportunity for artists to drop in and visit a range of exhibitions stands from galleries, arts organisations, venues etc. Artists will be able to speak to galleries/buyers face-to-face about what they are looking for and how to get work selected for exhibition, commissions or sales. This workshop will help them to prepare their approach and pitch, ready for 'Meet the Curator'.
Please note: there is no obligation to register to attend 'Meet the Curator' if you attend this event.
We are offering an alternative date for the same workshop - Friday 6 September in Ripley. Please click here to take you to the bookings page for the Ripley workshop.
The workshop will cover the basics about:
- How to market yourself and your work
- Making an approach to a gallery
- Other routes to market
- Ideas on displaying work
This interactive session will be delivered by Rachael Chambers, Director and owner of Ferrers Gallery www.ferrersgallery.co.uk, a multi-award winning gallery promoting British contemporary craft. Rachael has also been East Midlands Business Woman of the Year and is the Contemporary Craft Editor of craft&design Magazine. She also offers training courses and mentoring for makers.
