Event description

Description

Kevin Murphy has prepared this session sharing his son's journey.

The transition from Children's Services to Adult Services is often very challenging for young people with a learning disability and their families. There are changes to services and professionals, at a time when important decisions about a young persons education are also taking place. These changes should, however, be planned in advance. This preparation for adulthood should happen ideally by Year 9 at the latest. There should be no gap in services during this transitional process and the Local Authority should continue to provide services throughout transition into Adult Services.

The workshop is free to attend.

There will be free refreshments and buffet lunch for all attendees.

Organiser Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice

Organiser of Preparing for Adulthood with Kevin Murphy

We are a registered charity which is run by parent/carer volunteers with children/young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities.  We organise parent participation, providing the opportunity to talk about all the services they receive in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice has been set up to help parents have a  forum for change within Derbyshire services.

Parent Forums are making real changes to the way councils work with regard to parents, carers and children and young people.
