Event description

Description

Workforce skills are key to business growth and the delivery of public services – but Scotland’s working age population is forecast to decline by between 3% and 5% over the next 25 years with reduced post-Brexit migration from the EU.

Both the UK and Scottish Governments have recently published their proposals for a new immigration system. Independent experts have also just reported that changes set out in the UK Government’s Immigration White Paper would reduce net migration to Scotland by between 30% and 50%. It also suggests that the proposed salary threshold of £30,000 for skilled worker visas, and the new programmes for seasonal and temporary workers, would have serious consequences for key sectors, services and communities.

Join us at this free summit to discuss:

  • What will the UK Government’s proposals would mean for Scottish employees and employers?
  • How Scotland can continue to attract workers and their families, investors, visitors and students?
  • Would the Scottish Government’s proposals for a differentiated system within the UK framework, including a potential residency-based ‘Scottish visa’, support our economic and demographic needs?

Delegates will hear from leaders and experts from government, business, higher education and the third sector, including:

  • Ben Macpherson MSP, Minister for Migration, Europe and International Development, Scottish Government
  • Jacqueline Moore, Head of Immigration, Shepherd and Wedderburn
  • Scott Walker, Chief Executive, NFU Scotland
  • Cllr Adam McVey, Leader, The City of Edinburgh Council
  • Edel Harris, Chief Executive, Cornerstone
  • Mark Roberts, Senior Manager, Audit Performance & Best Value, Audit Scotland
  • Derek Mitchell, Chief Executive, Citizens Advice Scotland
  • Dr Christian Yeomans, Deputy Director, Edinburgh Global, The University of Edinburgh
