About this event

At the request of many of our members who are soon to start their teaching career, this panel discussion will be based around the very best start to teaching. And this year in particular with the launch of the early career framework, and other elements of the DfE Recruitment and Retention strategy, what a time to be in education.

Our panel will be facilitated by one of our EdConnect strategy leaders and they will be joined by a five stakeholders who all hold a different type of involvement with the early career framework. Our panellists include:

  • Abby Bayford: Director of Institute at the Academy Transformation Trust, Editor of A Letter to my NQT Self and Expert Advisor at the Teacher Development Trust.
  • Aniqa Khaliq: Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education at the University of East London.
  • Alex Purdie: Professional Mentor and Curriculum Leader of Technology.
  • Amy Windross: A soon to be Early Career Teacher, who has recently completed her training at Edge Hill University.
  • Christalla Jamil: Executive Headteacher of an infant and junior school in London and National Leader of WomenEd England.

Please do send any questions you have to events.edconnect@gmail.com, so these can be collated and put to the panel.

Organiser EdConnect

Organiser of Preparing for your Early Career: Panel Discussion

EdConnect is a grassroots network for Early Career Teachers (hence the ECT in Connect being highlighted – see what we did there!). We are born out of a network on Instagram known as instaEdConnect however, we know we could work with even more early career teachers in a much better way. We are ran by volunteers – by early career teachers for early career teachers. We believe that every early career teacher should thrive not just survive and we reflect this in our values.

As a member of our network, it brings with it huge benefits:

  • We are open for Early Career Teachers (Training, up to 5 years post qualifying). We also wish to connect with mentors and trainers too.
  • Each member belongs to a Local Hub to connect with ECTs locally. We will also have thematic hubs for key areas such as Early Years also.
  • Members get priority access to events including Job Application Support, Leadership Development as well as Social Events.
  • We have a dedicated Member Area on our website.
  • We will be hosting Twitter Chats from September.
  • You have the option of connecting with us on various Social Media platforms.
  • A regular e-Newsletter with key communications and updates.
  • The opportunity to write for our blog.
  • The opportunity to volunteer to become a Network Leader, developing your own skills whilst helping others.
