Event description

The National Archives’ Digitisation Services team have been imaging documents and creating microfilm copies since the 1960s, and began digitising about 15 years ago. Digitisation is strategically valuable for collections on multiple levels; opening up access to records for an international audience, providing a crucial revenue stream and fulfilling the duty of preservation. This hour long webinar will cover the following:

1. Scoping your project
2. In-house digitisation vs outsourcing
3. Document preparation
4. Image capture and post-processing equipment
5. Storage and metadata

This webinar is ideal for institutions, small or large archives and generally anyone who is considering digitising their own content but aren’t sure where to start. 5 areas will be discussed: project scope, the pros and cons of undertaking digitisation in-house or using a third party, the preparation of documents prior to imaging, equipment options and image storage.

This hour long webinar will be presented by Karen Cordier, Digitisation Manager in our Digitisation Services team. There will be an opportunity for questions in our ‘ask the expert’ session at the end.

Webinars are online only events.
