PRESENTATION SKILLS MASTERCLASS

 

Wednesday 13th FEBRUARY 2019 – FULL DAY

 

Wednesday 8th MAY 2019 – HALF DAY FOLLOW UP  

AIM

 

The Presentation Skills Masterclass will equip delegates with a tool kit of skills so that they will give a confident and effective performance. This intensive and interactive training will give individuals the ability to inspire and motivate audiences whilst being able to inform them about the charity they are representing. 

AGENDA

 

One the first full day of training will cover -

 

q  How to communicate effectively and confidently, maximising the opportunity to make a positive impact. The use of body language, voice and words. Style of delivery. Discuss the requirement of “performance”.

 

q  Define success criteria for their presentations.

 

q  How to structure a presentation.

 

q  How to handle questions.

 

q  How to deal with nerves.

 

q  Advice on visual aids.

 

q  Preparation before the presentation.

 

q  How to understand and meet the audience expectations.

 

Each person will present information at least twice during the day and will receive feedback. They will also be filmed to show how they can improve in a very short time with more self-awareness of how to “perform”.

 

OUTCOMES

 

Everyone who attends will gain -

 

q  More confidence in how to present themselves to an audience in such a way that they can transfer information in a more enlightening and inspiring style.

 

q  A better understanding of what is required to be a success and how to make a positive impact.

 

q  More time to practice as once they are following a structure it takes less time to prepare.

 

q  Honest feedback on current performance and tips on how to improve.

 

q  An opportunity to practice some new skills in a “safe” environment.

 

q  A review of what they are already doing well.

  

REVIEW DAY

 

After a full day of training in February, delegates will have the opportunity to come back together for a half day follow-up session three months after the one-day training. Each person will be asked to come with a 5 minute prepared presentation following the suggested structure and will be asked questions. This will give an opportunity to examine what progress has been made and a chance to explore and overcome any continuing challenges.

 

Everyone will have had three months to try out the skills learnt during the initial training. The benefit of this follow up session will be to refresh skills, increase knowledge, self-awareness and confidence by yet more feedback and practice.

  

STYLE

 

The style of this programme will be a mixture of theory input, group discussion and plenty of opportunities to practice skills.

  

PREPARATION

 

There is no preparation required other than to come with an idea of charity fundraising proposition that the individual feels happy to talk about for 5 minutes. However, the subject does not have to be charity related – it could also be related to a hobby or personal interest.

 

MASTERCLASS DYNAMIC

 

This training is specifically designed to offer in depth, personal training for a very small group. Therefore, places are limited to just eight participants, ensuring there is plenty of time for practice, feedback and intensive support.

  

ABOUT THE TRAINER

 

Judy Salmon specialises in general communications skills training with particular expertise in helping individuals at all levels to be more personally effective, confident and aware of their strengths and weaknesses. 

 

She works on a one to one basis or with specific teams, helping to prepare them for major new business pitches, how they are interacting with others, how they negotiate, interview others, how they are managing their careers and generally how to make a positive impact.

 

Judy offers practical and common sense solutions to issues combined with humour and compassion.

 

She is an excellent listener and often “hears what is not being said”.

 

She has addressed many business networks and spoken at conferences on the subject of “How to Gain Business from Networking” and has recently created a programme “Are you Curious about your Career?” which has received very positive reaction. Her clients include Knight Frank, PKF Francis Clark, Arup, Stephens Scown, Michelmores LLP, NFU, Brewin Dolphin, Thomas Miller & Co Ltd and Allen and Overy LLP.

 

Through her coaching she helps individuals face both strategic and personal change. Her past experience includes the setting up of training within James Capel and working as a consultant with MaST International Ltd. She also completed an eight year Short Service Commission in the Women’s Royal Army Corps, took a career break to take part in an expedition to Zimbabwe with Raleigh International, cycled from London to Paris to raise money for the Royal British Legion and helped create a project to develop a group of young business men and women to raise money for the Prince’s Trust.

As a member-led body much of our strength relies on the insight, understanding and practical experience of our members.

The IoF South West Region aims to support and empower fundraisers in the region and our Spring Conference is an opportunity to network with other fundraisers and hear presentations from expert practitioners.
