About this Event

Say it. Own it. Mean it! In this Presenting for Beginners workshop you will start to build a portfolio of skills that will help you to create an engaging presentation that will support you in winning new business opportunities and build on existing ones.

For owners and directors of small and medium sized businesses in Berkshire, this bookable free session has been designed to introduce you to the art of presenting or to help you refresh the skills you already have. As we are mindful of social distancing, this event will be conducted via Zoom.

Why attend this workshop?

Whether you need to present a 30” elevator pitch or think you might have to deliver a more formal presentation to a client and you feel you lack the experience, skills and confidence to do so – fear not! This clinic is for you. If you need to showcase yourself, your company and your products, you will almost certainly have to present yourself and your ideas in a way that will inspire and convince those listening to you. Delivering a great presentation will help you secure new opportunities and grow your business. Isn’t it worth making sure your presentation is the best it can be – who knows what it will lead to? Give it a go!

What is covered?

In this clinic you will explore and discuss what makes a great presenter, think about how you structure your presentation, how you put yourself across to others with confidence and authority and how to tell stories effectively. We’ll also explore the art of the Q&A.

The session will be interactive with exercises and opportunities for discussion and you’ll need to prepare a presentation of up to 2 minutes maximum.

What do I need to do?

You must prepare a presentation of up to 2 minutes maximum to this workshop and deliver it either sitting or standing in front of the computer or your tablet. You don’t have to include slides, although it would be good experience for you to do so as you may need to use them in the future.

Who is delivering this workshop?

Alison Rusted is a friendly encouraging coach who believes that authenticity, clarity, enthusiasm and energy is the foundation of great communication. Ali was an Editor at the BBC for many years where she worked with radio and TV presenters across a wide range of sports and news programmes and launched digital stations Radio 4 Extra and 5 Live Sports Extra. Most importantly, she learned that successful communication is all about understanding the audience - what inspires, enthuses and engages them - and how that understanding will enhance your communication skills and deepen your connection with your audience.

After many years at the BBC, Ali and her business partner then ran their own media and production company for 11 years before Ali went solo in 2018. Her experience of working with everyone from CEOs and directors at firms such as Grant Thornton and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner to small start-up companies and young British Olympic and Paralympic athletes has enabled her to develop a range of coaching skills to help people fully realise their potential to present their vision and key messages to a wider public.
