Event description

Description

Thanks to money raised by the Towne Family Association, the descendants of the Towne family of Great Yarmouth, we have been able to conserve the first Great Yarmouth Parish Register.

The register, recording approximately 138,000 names, gives details of the baptisms, marriages and burials in the town between 1558 and 1653. Two of the women included were hanged during the Salem witch trials.

This exhibition details the conservation work undertaken by Nick Sellwood, Conservator at the Norfolk Record Office.

FREE - no booking required
