Event description
Learn how a museum would preserve your Wedding saree as part of ASPARA arts' SAREE UNWRAPPED free family event day.

About this Event

SAREE REINVENTED project focuses on the History of the saree and the related stories of South Asian women in how and why the saree plays an important part in connecting to their heritage and cultural identity.

The volunteer led research project explored how the texture, design, colour, length, and even how a Saree is worn, creates a distinct regional identity of the woman who is wearing it. They also looked at sarees and it’s association with particular festivals and marital status. The exhibition display shares some of these findings.

This workshop led by the Museum of Croydon's Collections Officer will show you how a museum would pack, preserve and store a saree. Bring along your wedding saree and all other materials will be provided. Spaces are limited, book here.
