Preston Jam Music Festival: Rhythm Alley Jammin / Worldwide Samba Drummers...
Sat 1 April 2017, 13:30 – 16:00 BST
Preston Jam brings the Flag Market to life with a Saturday afternoon of live music. First up are the Worldwise Samba Drummers and Preston Samba Dancers, community groups based at UCLan as part of the Something for Everyone project. Their infectious high-energy performances combine traditional rhythms and dance moves with original material.
Come and take part in some musical improvisation with our afternoon of jammin! Either grab an instrument or bring your own and jam along with the group. This event will give you the chance to call and respond to the rhythm in a way you never have. Take risks, try out a new instrument and create your unique sound.
From 1.30pm, Rhythm Alley Jammin creates a circle to share and explore sound…Alimac will guide and facilitate this freestyle, youstyle jam session, open to musicians at any level, even beginners. Dust off those instruments - voices included - and come and jam. Some percussion will be provided for those without instruments.
Preston Jam is a brand new music festival curated by the University of Central Lancashire in partnership with the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival. The festival will be delving into jazz, exploring all its diverse forms from rap to hip-hop to electronica. Whether you are part of a band or just passionate about music, come along and experience the feeling of freedom music can create by exploring the different styles and genres that the 21st century has to offer.
The festival will run from Saturday 25 March to Saturday 1 April, with a variety of musical and academic events including community events, seminars and gigs with an opportunity to get involved in the local music scene.
