Prevent for Senior Managers and Prevent Coordinators:
In February 2017 over 300 independent providers of higher education will need to submit an annual report to HEFCE, indicating what training their senior managers and Prevent leads have undertaken. They will need to identify policies and procedures they have put in place to protect vulnerable students at risk of extremism.
Independent HE recognises the challenge of finding appropriate training and developing these processes, so have brought together some of the top experts in supporting campus cohesion, protecting vulnerable students and providing a safe campus for our students, alongside experts in the policy of Prevent.
This essential training will help you develop the right process to protect and support students while also meeting your obligations under the Prevent agenda. The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) will also present on how to successfully complete your annual return ahead of the February 2017 deadline. There will also be a session on the role of institutional governance in the Prevent agenda.
Most importantly this event will help providers to develop robust policies and procedures which meet their requirements under Prevent. There will be an emphasis on staff training, as well as practical examples of processes for external speakers, student safeguarding and welfare policies and best practice in developing a dialogue on Prevent between staff and students.
The session will start with a two-hour interactive workshop focused on policies, processes, student support and facilitating dialogue. There will then be separate presentations from:
- Jessica Trahar, Senior Higher Education Policy Advisor at HEFCE. She will give a presentation on annual reports.
- John Ryan, Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and former University Secretary at Worcester. He will speak about the governance considerations for Prevent.
This session is suitable for:
