Drug-related deaths are at their highest level since records began and changes to illegal drug markets are increasing the risks of overdose.

More than 500 people in the West Midlands died from drug use in 2023, an increase of 28% on the previous year. The region has seen one of the biggest increases in drug-related deaths in the country.

Walsall Council Public Health is hosting a half-day event to help shape Walsall’s approach to reducing drug-related deaths at:

Manor Farm Community Association, King George Crescent, Rushall

9am (for 9:30 start) – 1 pm, Tuesday 16 Sept 2025

The event will:

  • Outline local risks
  • Share ideas and summarise what the evidence says can be done to reduce deaths
  • Outline our current activities and changes being made to drug treatment services in Walsall
  • Show practical demonstrations of naloxone (a medication reversing the effects of overdose) and current harm reduction advice
  • Share ideas about how you or your organisation can help save lives

Please book your place via Eventbrite. For queries or more information please contact paul.hargrave@walsall.gov.uk.
