Drug misuse is a major contributor to premature mortality. People who use drugs are up to ten times more likely to die suddenly or as a result of chronic diseases than the general population.
A broad range of experts and practitioners from across England including Professor John Strang and Dr Tim Millar will provide their perspective on the published evidence and providing statistical analysis. A number of presenters will provide detail of practical examples of how their services have developed responses in the areas of overdose prevention, early identification of health problems, improved liaison with mental health services and the setting up of early warning and alert systems, speakers include Mike Linnell and a HSJ award winning Naloxone project.

Through an agenda of expert speakers, sharing the very latest thinking, delegates will gain a greater understanding of the national findings and evidence base for improving practice in this area. There will be the opportunity to gain insight, through sharing the data from three large-scale audits of deaths in treatment and follow on initiatives that are being employed to support the general health and other needs of this vulnerable group.
