Preview of the upcoming CCS Stewardship Expectations

CCS will play a crucial role in the transition to net zero. At the end of 2024 the NSTA issued the first ever carbon storage permit to the Northern Endurance Partnership and granted a further three to HyNet in April 2025.

The NSTA is currently stewarding 27 carbon storage licences and will soon be launching its new CCS stewardship expectations which will provide guidance to industry on what good CCS practice looks like and what we as a regulator expect of industry .
