Event description

Description

The Patients Council at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital has been collecting stories, artwork, photography, and poetry by people who have experienced longer stays in the hospital, as well as writing from staff members. Part of the Stories of Changing Lives series, these are being brought together as a book and a film.

Join us to for a first look - hear readings from the book, see the film, and, of course, pick up your copy. Whether you'd like to hear from people with similar experiences to you, understand more about what it's like to spend time in hospital, or find out about the ways in which people live well and shape services - everyone is welcome!

Accessibility: step free access, accessible toilet. Please get in touch if there is anything we can do to make the event more accessible to you.

You can see photographs and artwork from the book, plus objects and testimonies from the history of activism at the Royal Ed, as part of the Out of Sight Out of Mind exhibition at Summerhall as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival (SMHAFF), Wed 11–Sun 29 Oct, 11am–6pm. The exhibition is free.

There is also a launch party at Summerhall as part of SMHAFF on October 17th - details and booking here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/stories-of-changing-lives-3-book-launch-tickets-35633919011
