About this event

Subject to Change offers a glimpse of the complex and playful ways critically-engaged artists use tools such as generative code, algorithms, datasets and machine learning – usually gathered together in popular discourse under the umbrella term AI – to explore the impact of such technology on human psychology, society and the natural world. In contrast to common assumptions that AI always equates to rapid speed and automation, the artists invited together here instead build their own systems and deconstruct and adapt existing models. These processes are often precise, careful and hugely labour-intensive, producing artworks that are richly diverse in their materiality. The exhibition highlights the role artists play in slowing down and questioning the hard-to-resist pathways and common misunderstandings that often surround new technologies. Subject to Change marks the 10-year anniversary of the GAZELL.iO website and digital residency programme, which has supported over 100 artists since its launch. More than a celebration, the exhibition signals a new chapter for GAZELL.iO as it evolves beyond its role as a residency platform — becoming a more active and independent structure for long-term collaboration, commissioning, and strategic support for artists working critically with technology.

About Gazelli Art House

Founded in 2010 by Mila Askarova, Gazelli Art House brings a fresh perspective to Mayfair. The gallery champions artists from across the globe, focusing on those at the height of their practice, presenting and contextualising their work to new audiences.

With galleries in London and Baku, Gazelli Art House has a specialist focus on promoting art from Azerbaijan and its neighbours to understand further the rich linguistic, religious, and historical ties that connect this geography.

Since 2015, the gallery has expanded to support artists working in digital art through its online platform GAZELL.iO. In 2020, it established the GAZELL.iO Project Space and VR library, the first permanent home dedicated to digital art in Mayfair.
