Event description
Join us for the preview of Elisabeth Frink's studio reconstructed in our tithe barn.

About this Event

In 2019, Messums Wiltshire rescued Frink’s studio from Woolland. This year the studio will be rebuilt as part of an exhibition within the historic Tithe Barn at Tisbury. Many of the original contents will be shown alongside archive evidence. Come along to our Friday night preview to see the studio before it opens to the public on Saturday morning. If you wish to stay for supper contact themess@messumswiltshire.com to book a table or phone 01747 445042.

The fragility of life was a thread that ran through all of Elisabeth Frink’s art, and she worked with plaster to reveal the very essence of that fragility. A surprising number of her plaster sculptures, destined to be cast in bronze, survived against many odds and are now in the care of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Dorset County Museum and the Dorset History Centre. A few of these will be shown, accompanied by Ian Chapman’s photographs of the warehouse rescue operation. His images of damaged plasters and surviving fragments with their marks and scars echo the themes of vulnerability that were the driving force of Frink’s work.

Her studio will act as a reminder of the significance and relevance of creative making and thinking within all our lives. We will briefly share her world.
