It's our time! Public relations has such a huge opportunity to lead the way, to help businesses and organisations reinforce purpose and reach meaningful goals.
Using feedback from the inaugural festival, this year's festival will cover areas of public relations where we have identified a need to increase knowledge and skills.
Once again we stick to a two-day format, allowing practitioners to book half day, full day or two day tickets. Limiting the event to one day wasn't feasible given the strength of the line-up.

Andy will be holding your hand and walking you through the wonderful world of Influencer marketing. Practical tips based on nearly 20 years of experience. From influencer identification and weeding out the Z-listers right through to real life campaign examples and how-to tips.
10:50 Diversity & Inclusion in PR: The Business Case
Anne Groves from Taylor Bennett Foundation, Mary Whenman, President of Women in PR, Ronke Lawal, Founder, Ariatu PR and Ethan Spibey, Chair of PRCA’s LGBT Group, will participate in a panel session chaired by #FuturePRoof’s Sarah Hall.
In order for the industry to reflect its audiences it’s vital that PR business leaders engage in the debate around diversity and how to address the lack of it. By exploring the business, and moral, case for improving diversity across the industry practitioners will be better informed on the issue itself and how to take practical steps to address it.
This session will cover the following:
- Why diversity and inclusion in PR is important
- The range of diversity issues in the industry – Women, LGBT, disability, ethnicity, social mobility
- The business and moral case for ethnic diversity and social mobility
- Case studies – Taylor Bennett Foundation training & mentoring
11:30 Hack – run by Stephen Waddington, Partner, Chief Engagement Officer at Ketchum & visiting Professor in Practice
Stephen will lead this session to create workflow for planning, managing and measuring an influencer campaign, including earned and paid. There will be a lot of variation in markets and budgets, so the session will be useful for anyone involved in influencer relations or those who want to learn how to go about creating a workflow.

If your clients website going down, being defaced and all their customers’ personal data being stolen and broadcast to the world doesn’t strike you as a PR issue then this isn’t the presentation for you. On the other hand, if you want to know about the most common causes of cyber breaches, the PR implications and what to do when – not if – the hacks start, then pull up a seat. You will also find out ten of the most popular passwords in Scotland are, the most vulnerable sectors and what email addresses of yours have already been released online…

We need to stop soiling ourselves every time we hear integrated comms and marketing. This session should bring a level of calm and clarity to integrated comms and inspire practitioners to mine extra budget and work closely with the board room.
10:50 Amanda Coleman, Greater Manchester Police – Managing a Modern Day Crisis
The session will set out to provide hints and tips on how to deal with a crisis when it arrives. It will use real examples to demonstrate how to approach a crisis and how to be ready to support the organisation.
The session will include managing channels, the role of social media, the citizen journalist and the importance of internal communication. It will share the knowledge and understanding of the police approach as a format to manage crisis communication.

13:05 Jim Hawker, Co-Founder and Director, Threepipe – PR & SEO
The presentation will be focused around SEO, and how to drive performance through earned media links. It will showcase practical ways in which Threepipe is devising and running content campaigns to deliver high domain authority (DA) earned media links for clients.
The presentation will also include:
- How you can drive content efficiency by blending SEO and PR expertise, along with the tools and metrics used to create and measure success.
- We will show how you can bring this to life through real examples of work for leading e-commerce brands.
- How the results can be achieved/measured.
13:45 Sarah Pinch and Bridget Aherne – Working with and influencing the board
An honest and enlightening session on working with the board and influencing at the most senior level in an organisation with two past winners of the CIPR and IoD Public Relations Director of the Year Award.
Sarah Pinch and Bridget Aherne, winners in 2011 and 2015 respectively, will talk about their high calibre work, acknowledged by winning this award, how they delivered, the challenges they dealt with along the way and the opportunities the awards opened up for them.
14:40 Paul Sutton, Mental Health in PR
Studies have highlighted that poor mental health is a serious issue in the PR industry, with stress, depression and anxiety all rife. In this session, Paul will discuss his personal experiences to highlight how to tackle mental well-being head on and, with such a strong business case, why you should not delay in doing so.
15:10 Andrew Smith, Escherman – using data and analytics to inform strategy
There is no shortage of data available today to help inform and shape communications strategy. However, that is also the problem. Deciding what information is valuable and which metrics are appropriate has become ever more challenging. This session will look at some practical tips and techniques to help PR practitioners develop better approaches to using data to gain true analytical insight and to help deliver more impactful and effective communications programmes.
Tickets are split into half days, full days or two days. Morning tickets, full day tickets and two day tickets include an express lunch.
Attendance at the festival counts towards your CPD. 20 points for two-day attendance, 10 points for one-day attendance and 5 points for half-day attendance. Please keep a hold of your email confirmation to use for your CPD to avoid hundreds of enquiries next January!
About #PRFest 2017
#PRFest is a festival specifically for public relations. It has been developed as a method of engaging the wider PR and communications community, allowing a safe place to learn, share and collaborate. It also brings experts to Scotland who can share their success and practitioners can learn how they too can shape their professional learning and ambitions.
In 2016, the inaugural event brought all sectors of PR and comms together ahead of the Edinburgh International Festivals and coincided with AMEC and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
This two-day event promises to be interactive, practical and aims to inspire practitioners to think about modernising, keeping abreast of industry trends and demands, and challenge the way we currently think.
