Pride in the City - How To Support the Trans Community in the Workplace
Thu 4 May 2017, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
In collaboration with Pride in London and the Pride in the City initiative, London South Bank University presents a panel discussion and networking event on the theme of "Supporting our Trans Community in the Workplace".
In 2015, the Huffington Post produced an infographic of what it means to be transgender in the U.K. today. The statistics, which are consistent with those published by UNISON in the 2015 Equality Survey, were shocking. 62%, had experienced transphobic harassment from strangers in public places and 84% had thought about ending their lives.
On the work front, 42% of people in the survey were not living permanently in their preferred gender role because they feared they could lose their job. That’s nearly half of all trans people, afraid to be themselves. This is a shocking statistic and should not be allowed to go unchallenged.
This free event, in which Speakers will share their experiences of being trans in a workplace, will hopefully be a step in the right direction to change that figure. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session when members of the audience will be able to put their questions and ideas to the panel, and the evening will end with a networking event.
