Event description

Description

The training day will be led by Dr Yassir Javaid, cardiovascular lead, East Midlands Strategic Clinical Network. He was recently named Pulse "GP of the Year" for his work in reducing stroke admissions in the East Midlands. He will be joined by Mr Ketan Kavia, a clinical pharmacist with specialist interest in anticoagulation for stroke prevention.

This course provides CPD credits and is accredited by the Royal College of General Practioners (RCGP).

You can expect to learn about:

  1. The diagnosis and primary care management of atrial fibrillation

  2. The diagnosis and primary care management of heart failure

  3. ECG interpretation, ECHO report interpretation and valve disease

The course has been specifically designed by using everyday "real life" primary care scenarios to facilitate the translation of the best current evidence into practice.

Following the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Optimise screening for atrial fibrillation in their practice and improve detection rates

  • Diagnose common ECG abnormalities

  • Assess whether a rhythm or rate control strategy is most appropriate

  • Risk stratify for stroke using the CHA₂DS₂-VASc tool and assess bleeding risk with HAS-BLED

  • Assess the most appropriate anticoagulation option for their patient and safely initiate and prescribe DOACs

  • Streamline a diagnostics work-up for a patient with suspected heart failure, using and interpreting brain natriuretic peptide levels and establish a diagnosis of HFrEF and HFpEF

  • Integrate a patient's clincial findings with a technical echo report

  • Deliver high-quality pharmacological and non-pharmacological management to heart failure patients and identify when patients should be referred to secondary care

  • Better understand the palliative care needs of patients with heart failure

This non-promotional medical education programme has been initiated and funded by the BMS-Pfizer Alliance as part of their commitment to supporting best practice and enhancing patient care within the NHS.

By submitting this form you understand the data will be shared with the event organisers, Accession Healthcare Consulting Ltd, and Eastern AHSN who will contact you about the event.
