Event description

Description

Target audience: New and inexperienced Y2 teachers

Course leader: Alison Bailey, Pathfinder consultant trainer

This session will give teachers new to the yeargroup an overview of the key priorities and most effective teaching approaches for teaching the English curriculum at Y2. It will include the teaching of decoding and fluency for reading (including organisation for catch-up phonics) alongside the teaching of comprehension through guided and class lessons; securing the transcriptional skills of joined handwriting and spelling as well as developing children’s understanding of written English, including varied sentence construction and punctuation. These will all be considered in the context of age-appropriate, cross-curricular, engaging topics which develop children’s oracy and vocabulary and prepare them to meet the expected standards in English at the end of Y2.
