About this event

Event Description

Across the 3 events, we will look at:

- Key elements of an effective KS2 languages curriculum – supporting subject leaders to understand NC objectives and undertake subject monitoring.

- Supporting non specialist linguists to teach KS2 curriculum – resources and tried and tested approaches that can be used with ANY language and ANY topic.

- Embedding the curriculum across the school – seed planting in KS1 and EYFS as well as whole school events to raise the profile of languages

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

- Lead CPD on essential elements of a KS2 languages lesson / curriculum

- Monitor the languages provision in your school

- Direct teachers to further sources of support / quality resources

- Plan a language learning event to raise the profile of the subject across the whole school community

Professional Community Leads

Vicki Jordan

I have lead large departments in secondary schools, been a senior leader in a primary school and led a small village primary, but the one thing that makes my heart sing is teaching languages at any level. Having taught languages since the early 2000s from EYFS to KS5 I have seen a huge shift in approach. It is an exciting time to teach languages as we now know so much more about language acquisition and neuroscience than when I first started teaching. I know how daunting it can be to teach a subject that you have not really studied since you were in KS3 – ask me to teach a music or computing lesson and you’ll see the panic on my face. My aim of these sessions is to share quick wins, time savers and ways to make language learning a positive experience as well as support subject leaders to inspire their teams to deliver the very best language teaching and learning.
