This professional development programme provides a structured package of six full-day courses and three twilight sessions, designed to support teachers and RECs in implementing the RED curriculum across Year 1–Year 6.
The package offers participants opportunities to develop subject knowledge, collaborate with colleagues, and create engaging planning and activities that align with the Ways of Knowing and Knowledge Lenses.
Y1 & Y2 Teachers
Aim: To provide opportunities to unpack the RED and collaborate on activities and planning tailored to these year groups.
Objectives:
- Investigate the content of the RED (including sample resources).
- Work with the DOWES team and colleagues.
- Plan engaging activities linked to the Ways of Knowing and Knowledge Lenses.
- Engage in Q&A and share expertise.
Y3 & Y4 Teachers/RECs (Branches 3 & 4: Galilee to Jerusalem & Desert to Garden)
Aim: To develop subject knowledge and collaborative planning for Branches 3 & 4 of the RED.
Objectives:
- Investigate the content of Galilee to Jerusalem and Desert to Garden branches (including sample resources).
- Work with the DOWES team and colleagues.
- Plan activities linked to the Ways of Knowing and Knowledge Lenses.
- Opportunities to ask questions and share expertise.
Y5 & Y6 Teachers/RECs (Branches 5 & 6: To the Ends of the Earth & Dialogue and Encounter)
Aim: To develop subject knowledge and collaborative planning for Branches 5 & 6 of the RED.
Objectives:
- Investigate the content of To the Ends of the Earth and Dialogue and Encounter branches (including sample resources).
- Work with the DOWES team and colleagues.
- Plan activities linked to the Ways of Knowing and Knowledge Lenses.
- Opportunities to ask questions and share expertise.
Twilight Sessions (3 sessions across the year)
Aim: To continue to support teachers and provide collaborative opportunities for the implementation of the RED.
Focus Areas:
- Sharing of good practice.
- Exploring new resources and ideas.
- Reviewing planning and pupils’ work.
- Q&A and professional dialogue.
By the end of the CPD package, participants will:
- Have secure subject knowledge across relevant RED branches (Y1–Y6).
- Be equipped with practical, engaging resources and planning strategies.
- Confidently apply the Ways of Knowing and Knowledge Lenses in their classroom teaching.
- Strengthen collaborative networks across schools, with ongoing support from DOWES.
- Build reflective practice through shared dialogue, review, and evaluation.
