Introduction
To look at the latest information from current research in science (Ofsted reports etc.) enabling subject leaders to keep abreast of current thinking in their subject. These sessions are a chance for subject leaders to discuss the implications of this in terms of their current practice within school. They support subject leaders to develop leadership skills and increase their confidence in the teaching and learning of science.
Training Objectives
Session 1: Updates and latest science research.-Exploration of key themes from latest research and reflection on where we are as a school.
Conclusion: what next and what do you need
Session 2: Ofsted: unpicking school case studies and reflecting on school practice. A progressive curriculum.
-Real life case studies from recent Ofsted deep dives and what to look for when monitoring and planning a progressive curriculum.
Conclusion: what next and what do you need
Session 3: What does adaptive teaching look like in your school: sharing best practice.
-Discussion on how lessons can be adapted for all learners, this will be for mixed age classes, classes with SEND and more able pupils and promoting ethnicity and diversity.
-Resources to enhance the curriculum.
-Sharing of resources to support the above themes to enhance primary science for pupils.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
· Understand how the latest research will impact on your current science curriculum in school.
· Reflect on guidance in terms of school’s current practice and identify next steps.
· Monitor your curriculum with the Ofsted framework in mind and focus on key areas of quality of education.
· Reflect and apply more adaptive teaching strategies throughout the curriculum to ensure the curriculum is inclusive for all.
· Implement new resources in the classroom to support classroom teachers to deliver high quality science education.

Trainer
Carla Bennett
Carla Bennett is a School Improvement Officer at First Federation Trust who has extensive knowledge and experience of working within primary schools and with primary and secondary science leaders. She is also the founder and director of Plymouth Science CIC, supporting over 700 schools with CPD and curriculum planning where she won the Excellence in Primary Education Award, 2024 from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Carla is also a Primary Teaching Trust Fellow, awarded 2017, and has continued her CPD journey and networking through this lifetime membership. Alongside this, Carla is also part of many different science networks: she is a STEM facilitator, PSQM Hub leader, Explorify Champion and has been a key note speaker for the ASE and STEM learning conference.
Previous to this, Carla was an Education Improvement Officer for Plymouth City Council, Headteacher and led the Primary Science offer for Plymouth Teaching Schools. She has over 15 years’ experience in leading primary science and has expertise of leading teachers and leaders in improving practice, giving up to date research including first hand experience of Ofsted inspections.
