Introduction

To look at the latest information from current research in science (Ofsted reports etc.) enabling subject leaders to keep abreast of current thinking in their subject. These sessions are a chance for subject leaders to discuss the implications of this in terms of their current practice within school. They support subject leaders to develop leadership skills and increase their confidence in the teaching and learning of science.

If you are unable to attend on the day, or are sending someone else in your place, please let us know. Please be aware that failure to cancel your space can incur your school a cost.

SWIFT members:

  • This is a 'no additional charge’ event under the SWIFT Offer to Schools. You may withdraw, without penalty, provided minimum notice of 24 hours before the start time of the event is given.
  • If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, for each date of a course for which there is no additional charge, then the following charges will apply per applicant: £25

Non-members of SWIFT:

  • More than 21 days to date of event: Full refund available (minus £25 admin fee)
  • Between 20-7 days to date of event: 50% refund available (minus £25 admin fee)
  • 6 days or less to date of event: No refund available (plus £25 admin fee)

Should a training course recruit insufficient numbers to make it viable, we reserve the right to cancel the course, without penalty, giving minimum notice of 24 hours.

Trainer

Carla Bennett

Carla Bennett is a School Improvement Officer at First Federation Trust who has extensive knowledge and experience of working within primary schools and with primary and secondary science leaders. She is also the founder and director of Plymouth Science CIC, supporting over 700 schools with CPD and curriculum planning where she won the Excellence in Primary Education Award, 2024 from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Carla is also a Primary Teaching Trust Fellow, awarded 2017, and has continued her CPD journey and networking through this lifetime membership. Alongside this, Carla is also part of many different science networks: she is a STEM facilitator, PSQM Hub leader, Explorify Champion and has been a key note speaker for the ASE and STEM learning conference.

Previous to this, Carla was an Education Improvement Officer for Plymouth City Council, Headteacher and led the Primary Science offer for Plymouth Teaching Schools. She has over 15 years’ experience in leading primary science and has expertise of leading teachers and leaders in improving practice, giving up to date research including first hand experience of Ofsted inspections.
