About this event

Introduction

These sessions aim to create a support network in which schools share ideas, effective practice and discuss issues surrounding SEND. To focus on practical solutions to common challenges and gain expert advice and guidance from SEND lead professionals. In each meeting we will:

- Find out about development and updates in the field of SEND

- Share and learn from good practice

- Network with colleagues from other schools and agencies


Agenda

08.45 to 09.00: Introduction and welcome by the Primary SEND Community Leads, including an update on Whole School SEND.


09.00 to 09.45: Jo Siney, Head of Service and Jon Mitchell, Service Manager, Support & Advice/Designated Social care Officer – SEND, Disabled Children’s Services and Lise Bird, Head of Service for Early Help & Partnerships, Devon County Council. Overview of the services on offer, how to access the services and who can benefit, criteria for referral and assessment.


09.45 to 10.30: Laura Syree, Early Help Locality Officer, Devon County Council. Early Help in Devon, the Level 2 and Level 3 offer.


10.30 to 10.45: Break


10.45 to 11.30: Ben Jones, Operational & Clinical Service Manager, CAMHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST). Overview of the Mental Health Support Teams in Schools, access, future plans and further help.


11.30 to 12.15: Laura O’Shea, Advisory Teacher for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Devon County Council. Laura oversees the work of the Specialist Support Assistant’s (SSA’s) within the SEND Support Team and will provide an update on the service.

Target audience

These termly sessions are open to SENDCos, Behaviour Support Leads and Senior Leaders from all SWIFT member schools.

Non-chargeable Courses (Sessions that are part of the ‘no additional charge’ elements of the SWIFT membership)

  • If the place you are cancelling is for a ‘no additional charge’ event under the SWIFT Offer to Schools, you may withdraw, without penalty, provided a minimum notice of 24 hours before the start time of the event is given.
  • If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, for each date of a course for which there is no additional charge, then the following charges will apply per applicant: £15.00

Should a training course recruit insufficient numbers to make it viable, we reserve the right to cancel the course, without penalty, giving a minimum notice of 24 hours.
