Description

Primary: Using AfL Strategies to Move Pupils on in Communication

Intended audience: One literacy coordinator from each participating school.

This programme is useful for schools who are using a range of strategies to monitor and evaluate Language and Literacy standards within their schools, including the use of the Levels of Progression for Communication.

Whilst elements of this programme have previously been delivered by CCEA over the past two years, additional NEW RESOURCES and content will also be available.

Description of Programme

This 5 day support programme will run from October 2017 to May 2018. Participants must be committed to participating in all 5 days before signing up and should approve this with their Principal, if required.

Days 1 and 2:
Attendees will become familiar with:

  • aspects of AfL including, how to give pupils effective feedback and how to align success criteria with the standards for Communication in both Reading and Writing;
  • digital tools which support effective feedback;
  • three NEW CCEA Resources;
    • a series of four ‘Teacher Professional Learning Modules’ - training your teachers to monitor Communication standards in your school,
    • a new ‘iBook’ which focuses on AfL strategies in the context of Character Studies at Level 2 and,
    • a guidance resource for teachers on how to use C2K NewsDesk to develop Communication skills within the classroom.

Days 3 and 4:
Participating Literacy Coordinators will partner with another school from the programme to create an Action Plan and carry out further planning to enable implementation. (Mid-November 2017 – March 2018)

Day 5:
Participating Literacy Coordinators will come together to share practice.

Dates:

Day 1: 11 October 2017 – Clounagh Centre

Day 2: 15 November 2017 - Clounagh Centre

Day 3: by 8 January 2018 - Action Planning –in school

Day 4: by 31 March 2018 - Evaluation - in school

Day 5: 16 May 2018 - Clounagh Centre

Registration for this programme is now open and will close approximately 5 days prior to the date of the first event.

Teacher Release

Five days sub-cover will be given to each school and the sub-cover code will be provided on confirmation of a place.
