SCHUBERT Quartettsatz in c minor D. 703
MOZART Quartet in B flat K.458 'The Hunt'
WOLF Italian Serenade
BORODIN Quartet No.2 in D
With the run up to Christmas, Primavera celebrate in a suitably festive mood. Playful in Hugo Wolf’s Italian Serenade and tuneful in the Borodin Quartet, their programme captures mystery and imagination.
Following the success of A Song of Norway in the early part of the last century, and based on Grieg’s melodies, the producer Edwin Lester continued to mine the great melodies of Borodin and this great quartet in Kismet, a tale of Eastern Promise.
Brahms, not only discovered, but considered Schubert’s Quartettsatz, as a work on a level of achievement equal to the Unfinished Symphony. Not a bad recommendation.
December being the height of the hunting season, what better music to celebrate winter, than Mozarts’ most popular ‘Haydn Quartet’, The Hunt.
