Event description
An immersive, creative workshop exploring wild clay and how our ancestors would have processed and worked with it centuries ago.

About this Event

Use of clay for artisic expression emerged many centuries ago in the Far East, soon to be followed by the creation of functional domestic pottery. This practice gradually spread across the continents to us here in Europe. Since then, clay has been used in many various ways for both functional and creative purposes and, although today, modern equipment, machinery and techniques are employed, the process remains essentially the same!

During this workshop, we will make our own beautiful wild clay items from start to finish; exploring and experimenting with how our ancestors would have used clay and created pottery all those centuries ago!!

This includes:

Gathering local raw clay

Learning how to refine the clay and make ready for use

Making a variety of small, simple clay items like: bowls, pendants and beads

Building a primitive kiln

Firing our clay pieces in the kiln - if they have dried in time!

Taking home what we’ve made

All tools and materials are included in the cost of this course as well as refreshements and a woodland style lunch.
