Event Details

The Training Needs Analysis (TNA) Foundation course, presented by Barry Howarth, teaches the TNA process coupled with a thorough knowledge of the underlying principles in accordance with the previous and latest Ministry of Defence (MoD) Joint Service Publication (JSP) 822 and the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).

Course Objectives:

  • An overview and understanding of SAT principles.
  • An overview and understanding of DSAT principles.
  • The ability to identify what the TNA process can achieve.
  • An understanding of what is involved in the SAT, DSAT and TNA processes.
  • Increased knowledge and ability to carry out SAT, DSAT and TNA activities.

Course Overview

This 3 day course is designed to provide the delegate with a high level of understanding of the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) process coupled with a sound knowledge of the underlying principles within the context of a Systems Approach to Training. The fundamental principles are established and then built upon using a combination of presentation techniques, informal delegate instructor interaction and formal scripted syndicate and individual exercises. The course begins by defining the aims of TNA. The subsequent modules address the phases of the TNA, the products, the processes and analyses required to be carried out.

The course can be tailored to meets the needs of the individual customer where the exercises and products can be project specific.

Course Target Audiences

The course is aimed primarily at TNA Practitioners and / or Managers who require a high level of understanding of the potential, the processes and the problems associated with TNA and SAT. The course is also suitable for members of support disciplines which have to interface with a TNA programme. The course will act as a comprehensive introduction to TNA and form a sound foundation upon which future development can be based.

Course Training Process

The course begins by establishing the need for training and from this a logical analytical approach to defining training requirements (i.e. TNA). The TNA process is then addressed, and at each stage the relevant theory is presented and discussed. This is then consolidated through a series of practical exercises. This approach ensures that the delegate has a sound understanding of the concepts and the issues associated with TNA. Because the approach is logical and structured it aids recall and understanding. Relevant TNA and SAT standards are related to the theory; therefore the delegate develops the ability to make a critical appraisal of the contents and the requirements of relevant standards.

Skills and knowledge are at the heart of the performance of every employee.  A company’s overall performance will be markedly improved by raising their employees’ skills and increasing their knowledge.

In both the civil and defence sectors, any lack of knowledge or gaps in skills could prove potentially harmful and reduce the efficiency and effectiveness of any organisation.  To realise the full potential of employee performance, it is important to correctly identify the gaps in their skills and knowledge and then to design a bespoke training, coaching and mentoring programme to facilitate improved performance.

We can deliver to you 'in-house' or at our dedicated facilities in Tamworth or Lichfield, Staffordshire. We can also produce bespoke training to your exacting requirements.
