PRINTMAKING with Hilary Daltry
An accessible workshop-based course covering all aspects of traditional intaglio printmaking and relief printing.
Each week introduces a different intaglio technique: monoprinting, etching, aquatint, drypoint, collagraph and relief printing: woodcut and linocut.
Demonstrations and handouts will guide you through each method. Direct, practical explanations and lots of room to experiment will help you find new ways of working.
Ideal for a beginner printmaker. Learn key print techniques in an encouraging atmosphere.
More experienced printers can choose to work more independently and produce print editions. With plenty of time for you to draw on your etching plates, as well as to print them, you can create prints in multiple stages or in different coloured inks.
Example class activities: monoprinting from still life direct observation or colour etching from a watercolour done at home.
Regular drawing from observation, and using sketchbooks is encouraged as a central aspect of developing imagery for prints. Printmaking can also be very painterly. Often an element of unpredictability makes the process more than just one of reproducing the source material. Understanding this is what makes printmaking a creative medium in its own right.
