PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP

PRINTMAKING WITH JENNY FINDLAY

SATURDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 11AM – 5PM

Allanbank Arts in the Borders near Duns is the wonderful setting for a full-day creative Printmaking workshop.

Centred in the picturesque 18th Century former coach house of the Blackadder Estate, there will be plenty to draw on for inspiration.

Botanical references will be our main focus for this Drypoint workshop. Students will spend their day developing a personal response to the local flora and habitat in these peaceful surroundings.

Initially we will begin with sketching, drawing and monoprinting, which will in turn be used as a source material for the afternoon’s printmaking session. There will be plenty of opportunities for a creative approach and by the end of the day you will have developed confidence in using a press and will have a collection of images to take away.

For visual reference we will also be looking at the work of some contemporary Scottish artists such as Victoria Crowe, Elizabeth Blackadder, and Angie Lewin (Printmaker). Contextualizing this with some historical botanical illustrations held at the RBGE.

We are keeping the numbers small for this workshop, to allow the participants plenty of time and scope for developing their work, so please book early to avoid disappointment!

Please bring a packed lunch, tea, coffee and cake will be provided for the breaks.

Jenny Findlay has a B.A. (Hons) in Textiles from Camberwell School of Art & Crafts and an Art Teaching qualification from Brighton Polytechnic. She is currently teaching Freelance and with Edinburgh City Council – Adult Education Programme, whilst continuing to develop her own artistic practise.

She has also worked in management roles within a variety of contemporary galleries and innovative arts organisations, which gave her the opportunity to develop her strengths as both an educationalist and arts professional.
