Since childhood Gerard Hobson has had a love for birds, animals and art. His love of wildlife saw him qualify as a zoologist from Bangor University in 1984 and then worked for a couple of years for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust as a botanist. Later he became an illustrator for them, working on leaflets and sign boards.

Following relocating up north, Gerard worked for Yorkshire Wildlife and continued to develop his work on a freelance basis.

In more recent years he has turned his hand to woodcarving and these days focuses his attentions on print making having studied it in York.

The Langwith Scott Award offers free workshops to all current students and staff at the university, all you need is an online ticket from eventbrite and a free Tuesday evening! The Langwith Scott Awards exist to promote artistic creativity of all kinds. We encourage all participants to submit their works in for the Awards. This year's theme is 'Origins'.

Workshops all take place on Tuesdays from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in The Basement in Langwith College at the University of York. The entrance to The Basement can be found on the ground floor of John West Taylor Court which is situated behind The Glasshouse. If lost or locked out please report to the Langwith Reception Porters in the centre building who will be more than happy to help.

In order to keep the workshops running we do have a penalty fee for not attending workshops that you reserve a ticket for. This figure varies per workshop is calculated by dividing the artist's fee by number of participants and adding the materials cost if there is one. If you change your mind after reserving a ticket just get in touch with the committee to free up your place again and no fee will be incurred.
