“How we care for the dying is an indicator of how we care for all sick and vulnerable people, it is a measure of society as a whole and it is a litmus test for health and social care services”
End of Life Strategy, 2008

Aim:

To have knowledge and understanding of the 5 priorities of care for the dying person

Learning Outcomes:

To be able to apply the five priorities of end of life care to your practice

The five priorities are:

  • Recognising the dying phase

  • Communicating sensitively

  • Involving those important to the person

  • Supporting family and others

  • Plan and do
