What is an early career researcher?

Typically has a Masters level qualification or is conducting/has experience of conducting research in any setting and is considering a research career. They may be undertaking/or planning to undertake a PhD or may be looking to apply for a predoctoral or doctoral (PhD) fellowship/studentship.

What is a mid-career researcher?

Has been awarded a PhD and may be working as a post-doctoral research associate. They may be considering an application for postdoctoral fellowships and working with others on grant applications. They may be in the early years of their post-doctoral fellowship.

Am I eligible to sign up?

We are welcoming a range of early and mid-career researchers clinical and non-clinical. If you are unsure whether you are eligible to sign up, please email info@pri-uk.org

This event is part of the ongoing work of the NIHR-supported Palliative and End of Life Care (PEoLC) Research Incubator, following its successful national launch in September 2025. It is designed to support early and mid-career researchers—both clinical and non-clinical—who are building a career in PEoLC research.

Held in collaboration with the NIHR Research in Palliative and End of Life Care North-East (RIPEN) Partnership and other regional partners, the workshop is ideal for those exploring or preparing applications for pre-doctoral, doctoral, or postdoctoral fellowships.

The focus of the day is on turning national research priorities into fundable, collaborative projects that are grounded in the lived experiences of patients and families.
